W ESTCHESTER

Services

Security:

Westchester homeowners take responsibility for their own security in several ways:

  • Citizens On Patrol -- a proven crime prevention program manned by trained volunteers who patrol the neighborhood regularly, but at random.
  • Security Chairman -- a volunteer on the owners' committee Board of Trustees who advises the subdivision on crime and prevention.
  • Good Neighbors -- homeowners are very willing to watch the homes of neighbors when they are away.
  • Monthly Newsletter -- the Westchester RAP helps the subdivision stay abreast of security issues.
In addition, the subdivision uses the Harris County's constable dispatch service and patrolling deputies. If you need to report a security problem, call the constable at 281-463-6666.

Trash Collection:

Westchester Owners Committee Inc. contracts Trashporters for back-door garbage pickup two days per week -- Tuesday and Friday. Heavy trash is collected from the curb on Fridays. Refrigerators, air conditioning units or other large items must be certified and tagged that freon or other chemicals have been removed. Yard waste must be bagged or left in 3-foot bundles at the curb.

If you have any questions, call Trashporters at  281-446-2030

Recycling is voluntary. Local schools have dumpsters to accept paper (newspapers, telephone books and magazines). Vista Fibers at 1200 Brittmore Rd. accepts paper, plastic and glass. The following household recyclables also are accepted at the City of Houston's 5900 Westpark Recycling Center from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday:
  • Plastic containers, #1 and #2 only
  • Aluminum and tin cans
  • Batteries, Oil and Oil Filters, Latex Paint and Antifreeze
  • Paper (newspapers, telephone books, magazines)
  • Cardboard
  • Computers and residential electronic scraps
  • Glass containers
  • Used tires

Hazardous waste disposal is through the City of Houston's Environmental Service Center at 11500 South Post Oak Rd. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the second Saturday of each month. The phone number is 713-551-7355.

Mosquito Control:

WOC contracts Cypress Pest Control for mosquito control in the neighborhood. The company sprays on Thursday evenings and will spray a second weeknight as needed. A mosquito lives within 100 feet of its water source. Neighbors can help reduce mosquito populations by eliminating standing water in their yard.

If you have questions, contact Cypress Pest Control at 281-469-2679.
